Blog 1

My name is Shavon Bowman, and I am taking this course to learn more about both myself and the concept of feminism. After taking a course on women's studies last semester, I came to realize that women have a ton of issues which are ignored by the masses.

The course, which was Body Image, showed me that some women attack other women because of their lack of feminine traits, while others complain that the "beauties" are destroying womanhood. Through this course, I hope to discover why we dislike certain women or men and whether this tendency is caused by feminism itself. It is hoped that during this semester, any stereotypes about feminism (or the other side of the equation) will be checked and deleted from memory.

Also, I would like to answer some questions I have about feminism and its effects on the surrounding culture.

Questions I hope to answer through this course include:
1. Am I a feminist?

2. Why are women so afraid of being alone?

3. Do men really "have it better" than women, or do women just think they do?

4. Why are certain careers seen as masculine while others are viewed as feminine?

5. Can we ever be separate but equal as different sexes, or are men and women always going to be "separate but unequal"?
