USAID

     USAID is an American NGO that focuses on helping developing nations better themselves for a more positive future. The women's work that they do is called "Women in Development." According to the sponsor's Web site, the women in development program is intended to give women a better chance at receiving aid. The site states that "the contributions that women make to the economic, social, and political lives of their nations, communities, families and the next generation make them key actors in effective development. USAID's approach to gender is to design programs that take both women's and men's participation into account."

     Women are a must-have for several reasons. First off, they bear children. Without these two operations, life would cease. Secondly, in the majority of developing nations, the women are the ones raising the children. So, if you can teach the women, they , in turn will train the children the same things. Therefore, you are killing two birds with the same stone, so to speak. 

     This is also a gender issue because as you teach these women, you are empowering them. As the three waves of feminism in this country have taught us, women can do great things if they are given the opportunity to do so. For all the above-mentioned reasons, it is the perfect example of an NGO to donate to or work for if one hopes to help further women's roles in the world.
